Edmonton, August 15, 2012: Diamond Municipal Solutions is pleased to welcome the Regional District of East Kootenay to our growing community of public sector clients. The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is one of 28 regional districts formed by the Province of British Columbia to provide local government services to unincorporated areas. With a population of approximately 57,000, RDEK functions as a partnership of the municipalities and electoral areas within its boundaries. The regional district main office is in Cranbrook, the largest community in the region. Other population centers include the cities of Kimberley and Fernie, and the Districts of Invermere and Sparwood. The East Kootenay region is an area that offers a great lifestyle, unlimited recreational activities, and more sunny days than any other place in BC.
THE CHALLENGE:
The Regional District of East Kootenay was using Microsoft Dynamics SL (Solomon) but it had been heavily customized to fit their local government requirements. Because of the extensive modifications, they were not able to take advantage of new releases, which left them feeling stuck on old technology that was unstable. Their current system was not well set up to deal with direct deposits, nor keep up with electronic bank reconciliations. In addition, it did not have the capability to attach documents to posting entries or provide flexible and clean reporting. RDEK felt they needed a fresh start with a new accounting software package with strong core financial functionality out of the box. These challenges were all driving factors in RDEK’s search for a new, more robust and integrated financial management solution.
THE SOLUTION:
RDEK researched their options and found that the seamless integration between Diamond and Microsoft Dynamics GP was the right fit for their local government needs. THE CHALLENGE:
The Municipality of Huron East had been using an ERP system still containing a portion of DOS programming for years. The Township has a land area of 475 square kilometres, a population of 21,439 and is Toronto’s closest gateway to the Trent-Severn Waterway. THE CHALLENGE:
